Technical envelope

DIN quality gears, hobbed, shaped or ground

Every gear ships to a documented material, module, quality grade and heat-treatment specification. Custom profiles, tooth counts and large ring gears are quoted to your drawing.

Material

20CrMnTi, 40Cr, 42CrMo4 (4140), C45, 20MnCr5, 16MnCr5 alloy steels

Case-hardening grades (20CrMnTi, 20MnCr5, 16MnCr5) suit gears requiring a hard wear surface over a tough core; through-hardening grades (42CrMo4, 40Cr) are used for shafts, worms and pinions with balanced strength and toughness.

Gear types

Spur, helical (single & double), bevel (straight & spiral), worm and wheel, planetary, internal ring

Selection depends on shaft orientation, speed and required smoothness — helical gears run quieter and carry 20-30% more load than spur; spiral bevels handle higher speeds than straight bevels; worm sets provide compact high reduction.

Module range

0.5 to 20 (metric); DP 2 to 48 (imperial)

Fine modules (0.5-2) are used in instrument and servo drives; coarse modules (10-20) are required for heavy industrial and mining gearboxes where tooth root stress governs the design.

Pressure angle

20° standard; 14.5° and 25° available

20° is the modern industrial standard for its balance of strength and smoothness; 14.5° for legacy machinery interchange; 25° for maximum tooth strength in high-torque drives.

Quality grade

DIN 7-10 standard; DIN 5-6 precision ground available

DIN 8 covers most industrial gearboxes; DIN 6 or better is required for high-speed reducers, servo drives and low-noise applications, and mandates finish grinding after heat treatment.

Tooth treatment

Case hardened HRC 58-62, induction hardened, nitrided, or through hardened

Case hardening (carburizing) delivers the deepest, hardest surface for maximum load capacity; nitriding suits worm wheels and gears requiring minimal distortion; through hardening for lower-stress applications.

Bore configuration

Finished bore with keyway, splined bore, taper bore, or pilot bore

Splined bores handle reversing and shock loads better than keyways; taper bores paired with taper lock bushings enable easy removal from stepped shafts.

Max diameter

Up to 2,000 mm ring gears; up to 800 mm spur and helical

Large ring gears are hobbed on gantry machines with segmental heat treatment to control distortion; final tooth grinding is performed on CNC gear grinders.
