Force Machining for the USA Market
Cast iron, ductile iron and precision machining solutions for U.S. industrial manufacturers and engineering companies.
USA Market Overview
U.S. buyers typically specify engineering bar against ASTM, SAE or AISI designations, with the exact class selected from the mechanical requirement, machining plan and end application rather than from a designation alone.
Force Machining supplies continuous cast iron bar, ductile iron bar and machined components to U.S. OEMs, machine shops and distributors. Send your ASTM callout and required section and we confirm what is available as bar stock before quoting.

Material Standards & Equivalents
Grades below are the designations most often seen on U.S. drawings. Each row is marked as a stocked bar item or a reference grade to confirm.
Cast Iron & Ductile Iron
ASTM A48 // A536Gray cast iron is normally called out to ASTM A48 classes and ductile iron to ASTM A536 grades. Not every class is practical as continuous cast bar in every section.
| Material | Common Grade / Reference | Typical Standard | Key Characteristics | Typical Applications | Bar Stock Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gray Cast Iron | Class 30 | ASTM A48 | Moderate tensile strength, excellent machinability, good vibration damping | Housings, covers, general machinery components | Stocked as bar |
| Gray Cast Iron | Class 40 | ASTM A48 | Higher strength with retained damping and wear behaviour | Guide rails, wear plates, machine bases | Stocked as bar |
| Gray Cast Iron | Class 50 | ASTM A48 | High strength, denser matrix, harder to machine than Class 30 | Hydraulic bodies, high-load bushings, press components | Reference grade |
| Ductile Iron | 60-40-18 | ASTM A536 | Ferritic, highest ductility of the common grades, good impact behaviour | Fittings, low-stress structural parts, shock-loaded components | Stocked as bar |
| Ductile Iron | 65-45-12 | ASTM A536 | Balanced strength and elongation, widely specified general-purpose grade | Shafts, brackets, gear blanks, hydraulic components | Stocked as bar |
| Ductile Iron | 80-55-06 | ASTM A536 | Pearlitic, higher strength and hardness, reduced elongation | Sprockets, rollers, heavy-duty machine parts | Stocked as bar |
| Ductile Iron | 100-70-03 | ASTM A536 | High-strength grade, typically requires controlled heat treatment | Highly loaded shafts, crank components, wear-critical parts | Reference grade |
Aluminium Bar
6061 // 6063 // 6082 // 7075U.S. aluminium enquiries are usually written by alloy number with an ASTM or SAE reference and a temper. We confirm alloy, temper and section against your requirement.
| Material | Common Grade / Reference | Typical Standard | Key Characteristics | Typical Applications | Bar Stock Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aluminium | 6061 (T6 / T651 commonly requested) | ASTM B221 / SAE references | General-purpose structural alloy, good machinability and weldability | Machined fittings, jigs, structural components | Stocked as bar |
| Aluminium | 6063 | ASTM B221 | Good surface finish and anodising response, moderate strength | Profiles, trim, light mechanical parts | Stocked as bar |
| Aluminium | 6082 (where applicable) | EN reference, supplied to U.S. buyers on request | Higher strength than 6061 in some conditions, good corrosion resistance | Structural machined parts, transport equipment | Reference grade |
| Aluminium | 7075 (higher-strength applications) | ASTM B211 / B221 | High strength-to-weight ratio, lower corrosion resistance and weldability | Tooling plates, high-load machined components | Reference grade |
International grade designations are provided as a purchasing reference only. Mechanical properties, chemical composition, heat treatment, dimensions, and applicable standards may differ. Final material selection and equivalency should always be confirmed against the customer's drawing, specification, or purchase order.
